for the memory of Milford Graves (1942 - 2021)
and all our grandparents.

A small gesture of breathing life into archived sounds, words, shapes and sensations that hold meaning and affect within. Cows, chaos; silence, a first mentor, a coco sung. A document analogous to the notes, narratives and thoughts I’ve told myself in order to find out what I am and become through a mentor.
These audiovisual recordings witness the (internal) development of a performance in progress by Lara Santasss and myself.
They all precede the exhibition-performance ’you just go ahh… hmmmm…’, first shown this last summer solstice at Current: a Space, hosted by curator Pankaj Tiwari. It's siblings with a text, where I proceed with meditations on the theme, published in print at ATD magazine Kein Hexenwerk, and accessible in a draft online version at :::
kb.hotglue.me?COWS+CHAOS .
I only really mustered the courage to share this on my 21st birthday, as I think about Prof and am left out of breath - much like by the end of my "despedida"...
All love due; I hope these seeds grow into something as solar as solstice itself.

Rehearsals, meditations, samples of my process through a couple sound sculptures, instruments and a room next to a tram line with good company. My 8-string, a tenor I inherited. Recorded on surprisingly hi-fi phone voice memos and my dear Zoom H4. They're yours to sample and flip... but lemme know in case y'all do!.
Innumerable thanks to Pankaj for all the space(s) and an unlimited chai supply; Dustin James & Rafael Jama for the photographic & audiovisual documentation; Toni Kritzer for their generosity with my writing. All my presence to Lara.
Massive hugs to all the ones growing this with me; mentors Jiwon Chung & Malik Abdul-Rahmaan plus the folks at Sound Practice! Flávia! Dora! Andrea! Ramon! Leo! Ellington! Homie Evan Mitak Hall AKA Cicada Evans AKA Sonny Biscuit! Those I call family and friends - who knowingly or not give me all strength.
